Learning to Draw Figures/People

To be able to successfully draw comic style images I'm going to need to learn to draw people. Not just a one-off sketch but multiple images of the same person in a variety of poses and situations. There are a couple of methods that are used for drawing people and artists pick the one they prefer.

Negative Space Drawing

For a while now I have been intending to do a drawing using negative space but it has taken me a while to make myself do a picture. I have forced myself to do a picture and here it is.

Creating a Logo- The First Stage

I have decided that this blog could do with a logo. Something simple, nothing too fancy but something that reflects the purpose behind this blog and is fairly easy to recognise and 'get'.

Wall of Progression Update 28/07/2013

It's hard to believe another 2 weeks has gone by. I don't feel like I have done much, at least not enough to warrant another update but never mind that. There are some changes so it might as well be done.

Another Comic Copy

Oddly it has been 9 days since I last did a picture and I have done another copy of an existing comic picture, that is after all the main aim of this blog (not copying pictures but doing comic book styles pictures).

Vegetables Still Life

Much like fruit, vegetables are suitable for still life drawing as they also have different shapes, colours and textures. So in the unlikely event that you don't have any fruit at all, you can use vegetables instead.

Dating your Pictures

Emulating the Style you want to be able to do

Whenever people like something that someone does whether it is dressing a certain way, behaving in a certain way or draw with a certain style, they tend to copy what that person does. If they like the way someone dresses they wear similar clothes, if they think someone has a great way of living life they try to live that way themselves and if they like the way someone draws they will copy their drawings and try to draw their own things in that style.

A Discussion of Pencil Sketching

Pencil sketches are one of the easiest types of image to do but they have their drawbacks. In this post I will discuss pencil sketching and show you some of sketches I have done in the past.

Dice Stack Pen Sketch

Originally I was intending on drawing a still life of some fruit, a classic right? But I wasn't feeling it so I spent a bit of time looking for some other things to draw instead and decided to draw a stack of dice.

Wall of Progression and first 2 images

It has taken me a bit of time to get my first 2 pictures done even though I wanted to start sooner. But never mind I have my first 2 pictures for you and you know what they say 'starting is half the battle'.

What's this blog about?

This blog is all about tracking my progress as I try to become better at drawing, painting and other art related things. The main type of drawing I would like to become better at is comic book style drawings because they look awesome to me but that will not be my sole focus.

I have always enjoyed drawing with sketching being my forte and I have always wanted to be better at painting and including colour into my images. I am not a complete novice but my skill level has plateaued since I draw infrequently these days.
